Good people leave early. By now, I am certain that all of you would have read many articles on Yasmin Ahmad and how her passing is a great loss to the country. But, let me share my two cents worth.
In my very own cinema studies, I've analyzed the movie 'Sepet' along with other internationally-acclaimed movies. Every element in that movie was so perfectly planned and I remember feeling very patriotic and proud after watching Sepet. I became interested in Yasmin Ahmad as a person herself and read her blog every day. I cried watching Gubra and dragged Suez to watch Muksin. Just recently, we watched Talentime and I cried again.
Her movies are not written with clever lines neither is it brilliant ... but it's simple and different. It has the ability to tug on our heartstrings and what makes it so special is that you, I, Ali, Muthu, Ah Chong and every other Malaysian can relate to her movies. And that my friend ... requires a genius to do.
Good people leave us too soon. And Yasmin Ahmad is one of the few good people that have left us too soon.
Our film industry is now back to the rubbish it was formerly. Sorry for being blunt.
